The Dragon and Phoenix, revered in Chinese Feng Shui as the ideal pair symbolizing good fortune, eternal love, and marital bliss, have been central in traditional Chinese wedding banquets. However, the trend shifted towards Western-style decorations in the 1990s, leaving behind this cherished tradition.
The owner of this project, deeply passionate about preserving Hong Kong's cultural heritage, embarked on a mission to collect carvings of these auspicious creatures from old Chinese restaurants over the years.
Situated in the vibrant district of Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, this 1,500-square-meter restaurant specializes in hosting wedding banquets, offering two unique halls – one Chinese-style and one Western-themed. The Chinese hall is adorned with these rescued carvings, seamlessly blending traditional craftsmanship with modern dining space. The crowning jewels are the Dragon and Phoenix backdrops flanking the stage, invoking the collective memory of Hong Kong's people. These backdrops can be easily rotated into two LED screens for playing videos during various events.
The coexistence of the two halls at either end of the spacious dining area creates a captivating East-meets-West ambiance. Grey marble walls, wooden panels, and chinoiserie wallpapers adorned with delicate floral and avian patterns offer a harmonious and splendid background where traditional and contemporary styles harmoniously coexist.
As a loving design detail, a Chinese button knot graces each dining chair, bestowing good luck upon all guests. An abstract patterned carpet in joyful red tones, symbolizing happiness in Chinese culture, and a circular, dazzling chandelier, representing reunion, provide the finishing touches to the combined hall.
Carefully positioned ceiling rails, equipped with movable screens, offer versatile space division, making the restaurant ideal for hosting a range of events, from birthday parties to baby's 100th-day celebrations and annual dinners.
